'Support not Separation' are a contemporary campaigning group, and most adopters I think would agree with the majority of their aims. The trouble is they are deliberately conflating the child protection and care system with adoption in order to gain publicity, which muddys the waters somewhat. If their children really have been adopted (as opposed to just being removed from them by the state, which is not the same thing), then that would have been because their actions and behaviour would have been clearly, unambiguously, dangerous to the children. Once it has reached that point no amount of 'support' is enough. It is already too late. That's why police are involved. You'd need mass surveillance of everyone's parenting to remove child abuse completely.

As for historical forced adoptions, I agree the government should apologise for allowing it, but we do need to be clear who was doing the forcing. I really don't understand why we don't criticise the families of the poor women who were made to give up their kids. Is it because it is so difficult to confront them now, because there are so many of them, or they are dead? By all means chase down the government, but don't ignore the fact that it was ultimately the fault and responsiblity of the parents of the birth-mothers in the vast majoirty of cases. What would have happened to those mothers and children if the government *hadn't* allowed it? Nothing good. As a society we all need to take responsibility.
